Weblogs; how is it meaningful to the course of teaching? Through today's ICT lesson, I have learnt many new and interesting functions in blogger that I did not discover though I was a blogger user for more than 4 years.
Weblogging is a very good tool for the 21st century students as most of them spend most of their free time on online gaming or surfing the net and less time on written assignments, thus using the technonlogy to conduct lessons would generate interest to our students.
Through this weblog, teachers can collate works from students by asking students to send in their assignments/ posts into the blog by sending through email. By there are pros and cons to this idea as students may use their classmate's ideas as their own, but to tackle these problems, we as teachers could private the blog (such that students only blog but they do not get to see the posts).
Videos relating to the subject can be also posted to the blog for students to view, thus it imprints the knowledge better compared to normal class lessons.
On top of that, weblogs can be used as a communicating channel to students for e-learning or to convey messages, ie, students can log into the blog and check what the teacher wants them to do for the next lesson, etc. For even more interactive communication, a tag board can be added into the blog for both the students and teachers to communicate, as it is a very direct way of communicating and we save the hassle of checking emails and students also do not have to flood our emails just to ask a question.
So is weblogging a good tool for teaching of your subject? (:
